Translation Booth, A paradoxical Place

Output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Conference interpreting is generally considered a secondary phenomenon, with the interpreter hidden by the speaker. One of the paradoxes of interpretation is that interpreters are considered part of the equipment, yet they are present during the most secret meetings. Conference interpreting for the European Union is regarded as the standard, not only in terms of the number of languages that are used but also in terms of the ideological motivation: “Multilingualism contributes to European values of democracy and equality”.

It is because of these reasons that I chose a translation booth of the European Commission as the setting of my short film "Translation Booth”.
During this presentation I will briefly discuss the questions that inspire me while preparing the film.
