All that I can’t say / everything I can’t say

Output: Contribution to book/anthology

In 'All that I can’t say / everything I can’t say' Belgian-Armenian artist Mekhitar Garabedian explores the ideas behind his work and in particular his sound installation 'PARARAN (Dictionary)' from 2006. The installation is based on research about language in general and the Armenian language in the diaspora in particular. What are the effects of a surpassing disaster and of migration on language, culture and tradition? What happens to the mother tongue, (the relationship with) the fatherland and the history of the fatherland? The 'stranger-translator' (Julia Kristeva) and 'the withdrawal of tradition past a surpassing disaster' (Jalal Toufic) are two concepts that Garabedian investigates in his discourse about his own artistic practice.
