Research expertise

Didier Reynaert is lecturer Social Work at the University College Ghent, faculty of Education, Health and Social Work. He is a member of the research group on ‘Social Work and Human Rights’ of the Department of Social Work and participates in the Centre of Expertise E-QUAL of the faculty. His main expertise lies in the field of 'social work theory', 'children's rights studies', 'human rights studies' and 'social justice'. A key focus in his work is the development of a human rights based approach (HRBA) to social work.

His research interests include community and integrated care, child policy and youth care, child poverty, the relation between welfare and justice, inclusive citizenship and human rights as lever for community development.

Didier Reynaert holds a bachelor in pediatric nursing (Erasmus University College Brussels, 1998) and a master in educational sciences (special education, Ghent University, 2002). In 2012, he obtaind his PhD with a thesis on children’s rights. 

Teaching expertise

Didier Reynaert teaches ‘Social Work Study’, ‘Human Rights and Social Justice’, ‘Youth and Social Justice’ and ‘Community Care’ at the University College Ghent (Belgium). Besides, he teaches ‘Social Work Theory’ at the HAN University of Applied Sciences (the Netherlands). Didier Reynaert is also a Guest Professor at the Odisee University College (Brussels, Belgium), where he teaches ‘Children’s Rights’ in the bachelor program on Family Studies.
